D.J. Fluker – NFL Rookie of the Week

Enormous congratulations to D.J. Fluker for being named the NFL Rookie of the Week for Week7! The big man dominated and devoured the Jaguars front seven while playing on both the right and left sides of the line.

Fluker, the Chargers’ 1st round draft pick, is the first offensive lineman to receive the Rookie of the Week award in five years! The last to do it… Broncos’ o-lineman Ryan Clady in week 14 of 2008. Even better, D.J.’s award makes it two in a row for the Bolts after Keenan Allen nabbed the prize in week 6.

Fluker has been a beast all year. He run blocks like a pro-bowler and is only improving in pass protection. It was amazing to watch him seamlessly make the switch to Left Tackle without having played or practiced there since high school.

In fact, the more I’ve thought about it, the more it makes sense to continue giving Fluker time at Left Tackle if needed. The Chargers love to run left this season and 76 is the best run blocker on the team. We’ll see how that unfolds as King Dunlap and others find health during the Bye.

Nonetheless, congrats to D.J. Fluker. Keep eating those d-lines alive and show us your best in Washington.
